Steve Gravestock is Senior Programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival, responsible for Canadian programming initiatives including Canada's Top Ten Film Festival, and the Canadian Open Vault - a selection of Canadian classics. In addition, Gravestock oversees TIFF's series of monographs on Canadian films and filmmakers, which recently partnered with University of Toronto Press.
As a TIFF festival programmer, Gravestock focuses on Canadian feature films and also selects films from Scandinavia and the Philippines; previously, he programmed films from India, Australia and the Netherlands. Many of the films he has programmed have been nominated for Oscars, including Petter Naess's Elling, Mikael Hafstrom's Evil, Denis Villeneuve's Incendies, Philippe Falardeau's Monsier Lazhar, and Susanne Bier's In a Better World which took home the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2011.
